DPD Explorers Drone Academy
The DPD Law Enforcement Explorers Program is proud to launch the Explorers Drone Academy, a four-week STEM-focused aviation and technology program designed to introduce youth to the exciting world of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), aviation, and emerging technology careers.
The academy will run from July 20, 2026, through August 14, 2026,.
Participants will receive classroom and practical instruction in drone operations, aviation fundamentals, airspace, weather, aerial photography, flight safety, and FAA certification pathways. The program is designed to develop leadership, critical thinking, teamwork, and technical skills while exposing students to real-world applications of drone technology.
The Drone Academy is conducted in partnership with the Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum, which provides curriculum guidance and aviation mentorship, and the Detroit Public Safety Foundation, which supports the program through fundraising, grants, and community partnerships.
This unique opportunity is open to current DPD Explorers ages 14 and older and is limited to the first 25 participants.
